Plants grow to approximately 20cm in height with a spread of around 30cm, making them ideal for edging, rockeries and ground cover planting. From June to September, a mass of vivid flowers sits just above the foliage, creating a compact yet colourful display.
Dianthus deltoides is easy to care for and thrives in full sun with well drained soil. Once established, it forms tidy clumps that return year after year. Removing faded flowers will help prolong flowering and maintain a compact shape.
This variety holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, recognising its reliability and strong garden performance in UK conditions. The seed range is produced by Mr Fothergill’s in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society.
For indoor sowing, sow from February to April in trays of moist compost. Cover lightly and keep at 15 to 18C. Seedlings appear in 14 to 21 days. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm apart in trays. Gradually acclimatise outdoors before planting 25cm apart in flowering position.
For outdoor sowing, sow from May to June in a prepared seed bed. Sow thinly in rows 25cm apart and cover lightly with fine soil. Thin seedlings to 10cm apart before transplanting 25cm apart in flowering position from September to October.
